He climbs the highest mountains,
and listens to the sounds of the earth.
He worries about the trees, and the plants
and whether there will be enough water.
He understands the fragile
beauty of the desert.
He walked down the hillside,
of a hot sandy wash,
dry and bleached by the sun.
He stopped for a moment,
to fling open his arms,
and embrace the land,
to take in the abstract colors,
the brilliant and uncompromising light.
The desert mountains called to him,
to his wandering heart, and said:
"come to me and I will reveal my secrets to you".
Entranced, his feet moved upwards,
climbing the stony slopes,
one agonizing step after another.
